How do I choose the right Tennis Racquet Grip? - Sports - Tennis

If you watch enough tennis you'll notice pretty quickly tennis is a game of inches , or less in the case of the pros. Every ball seems to be in by half an inch or out by half an inch . When a pro has a chance they go for the outside edge of the line, no less .

So in a game won or lost by the smallest margins you need to have your equipment working at it's peak performance . It is suprising how much harder it is to play with the incorrect grip size . This becomes evident when trying a new tennis racquet and the grip size is smaller than you are accustomed to , you will wonder how anyone could play with it. .

If it is too small you shall find that you have to grip the racquet harder to stop it from spinning . Most shots in tennis require that your grip is relaxed , not too tense. If the grip is too small it is not possible to have a relaxed grip . If the grip is too big it is very challenging to make a quick grip change , it is harder to impart spin and snap on a serve. A grip too large or too small will increase chances of tennis elbow.

One easy way to check your grip is to hold your tennis racquet using your forehand grip , the tips of your fingers will wrap around towards your palm. If the grip is correct you should be able to fit the index finger of your non-playing hand in the gap made by your palm and tips of your fingers . If you can fit the index finger and another figure in as well you can be sure you need a smaller grip . When the index finger doesn't fit in between the grip is too small .

These days an over grip increase the size of a grip that is too small and they have great finishes on them as well. There are super absorbent, tacky grips, grooved grips all are capable of soaking up sweat and leaves the grip tacky so the racquet doesn't slip or move too easily .

To play the best you possibly can be sure you are using the correct tennis racquet grip.
