The Botox treatment involves injecting Botox into the sweat glands underneath the skin. This procedure works really well, but it's not permanent and can be quite expensive.

There are a few oral medications that can be prescribed for someone who has excessive sweating. One of them is Robinul, which is usually used to treat ulcers but is effective in treating severe sweating too. There are some side effects however, such as headaches, dizziness and nausea.

A surgical procedure, called Thoracis Sympathectomy, involves making small incisions in the chest and cutting the nerve that runs to the sweat glands in the armpits. Frankly, this one sounds dangerous and I would only recommend it in really extreme cases.

This somehow numbs the sweat glands for a time, reducing sweating. Unfortunately my sweating problem was confined to my underarms, so this treatment wasn't an option.

I wasn't really interested in Botox or surgery, so I tried the medication for a while. It worked ok, but the side effects made me quit the meds after about 2 weeks.

That's when I learned about natural at home remedies for stopping armpit sweating. The most effective remedies I read about were:

-Aluminum based antiperspirants-baking soda-changing diet-wearing cotton clothes

Some antiperspirants work better than others. Aluminum based antiperspirants seem to work the best at eliminating major underarm sweating.

Baking soda is another easy trick that you might want to try out. Baking soda is great at absorbing moisture and odors. Just take about a teaspoon of baking soda and rub it on your pits!

A good diet is important for good health and I had some success simply eating better. I also avoided spicy foods, which can trick the brain into thinking the body is hotter than it really is. There is some evidence that iodine rich foods like fish and eggs can cause excessive sweating, but I didn't notice any difference avoiding these foods. Wearing cotton clothes can help keep you cool and dry by keeping air flow at a maximum.

Do you find yourself in a hurry much of the time? When we are in a hurry, we tend to lose sight of the people and things around us. I had an experience when traveling through an airport in Atlanta, Georgia that reminded me of how easy it is to walk over someone rather than help them.

While riding up an escalator to get to the gate where my flight was scheduled to leave from, I noticed a lady well up in front of me. It was apparent, even from a distance, that she was very stressed. She had three small children with her. One of them was a baby she was carrying. She was struggling to keep the other two near her as they enjoyed the experience of being in an Airport and riding up an escalator. Did I mention she was also carrying multiple bags? She had two of three bags on the escalator step in front of her. I could see beads of sweat on her forehead as she tried to keep everything together.

What surprised me happened when they reached the top of the escalator. She made her best attempt at pushing the bags that were in front of her with her feet as fast as she could get them out of the way. At the same time, she was making sure that the two children she wasn't holding got off the escalator without tripping or falling. Although watching her orchestrate her family's movements was interesting, that was not the part that surprised me. What surprised me the most was all of the people that were behind her on the escalator who stepped over her children, bumped into her and her children, and gave nasty looks and comments as they walked past her family. No one at that moment appeared to have any compassion regarding her situation.

When I got to the top of the escalator myself, I asked if I could help carry anything to her gate. What I found out was that she didn't know exactly which gate she needed to go to. She offered me a couple bags to carry and we walked to a customer service desk. We found out where she needed to go and once there she was able to sit down with her family. Her smile, thanks, and relaxed look on her face was more than worth the time I took out of my schedule. How much extra time did it take me? No more than five minutes! I am confident that many of those people that walked over her had more than five minutes they could have given. Many of them probably hurried to their gate at the airport and then sat there for twenty or thirty minutes before they even had to start boarding.

What would you have done in the same situation? Although I stopped and helped her in that particular situation, I'm sure I have walked by many others in similar situations. Why would we do this? Sometimes it's because we think we're in too much of a hurry to help. Sometimes we're just not looking for opportunities where we can help others.

I have to challenge myself on a regular basis to look for opportunities every day to help others. I would challenge you to do the same. When you get up in the morning, think about a way you plan to help someone before the day ends. Also, remind yourself to look out for opportunities throughout the day and respond to them. There is someone that will be better off if you take the time to help him or her today.

Burnout: 5 Signs that You're Doing Too Much - Self Help

I thought I was over the hurry-up, crazy-busy phase of my life. After all, that was the whole point of leaving behind the bustling metropolis of Boston in the first place (well, one of them). When I arrived in Park City, Utah, I envisioned long bike rides and relaxing evenings with friends. I had dreams of leisurely mornings where I meditated and enjoyed my tea on the patio as the sun came up. My job would be rewarding yet stress-free and all of my problems would melt away in this beautiful mountain resort town. I would be a model of balance, calm and utmost kindness.

Not so much.

Turns out, I'm just as busy in Park City as I was in Boston or San Francisco. And finally, after months of doing too much, I surrendered to the exhaustion. Now, after 3 days of self-imposed reflection (okay, I had the flu), I recognize a few of the warning signs that led to my ultimate burnout. Are any of these red flags familiar to you?

Sign No. 1: Snapping at friends and family. I'm generally a lovely person. Really. I'm sweet and fun and full of energy. So when I find myself taking off the heads of my loved ones, I know I must be getting overwhelmed.

What to do: Look deeper and figure out what you really need. Then ask for it. Do you need some time to yourself? Do you need a hug and a sympathetic friend to vent to? Do you need help with carpool or grocery shopping? Go ahead - ask for what you need. I promise, you'll get a much better reaction than yelling at your loved ones for no reason.

Sign No. 2: Letting personal hobbies fall by the wayside. There are a few things that I know will make me feel calmer: meditating, writing in my journal, reading in a coffee shop, going for a walk. So why do I avoid these activities at all costs when I'm stressed out? Here are some of the reasons I tell myself: "I'm too busy for that silly stuff! I have real work to do!" Or "If I slow down for long, then I'll drop all of the little balls I've been juggling. I'll lose control and won't be able to stop the world from caving in." Or (more subconsciously) "What if I really am doing too much? What would I do about all of these commitments? I'll have to (gasp!) let other people down! Never! I'll just get out of bed an hour earlier every morning."

What to do: Enjoy some personal time every day. Force yourself to take a time-out, even if it's just for 20 minutes a day. Take the time to stop, breathe and connect with yourself. Just too busy, you say? Then write down all of your commitments, and cross the least important item off the list. Then plan on doing something for yourself in your new free time.

Sign No. 3: Running late. Okay, I'm not always the most punctual person on the planet. But when I'm really doing too much, I get even later. Five minutes late becomes an hour late. My friends get annoyed with me, and then I get resentful because, hey, at least I made it (don't they KNOW how precious my time is!?!). My life becomes one big rush, and I never feel like I have time to slow down.

What to do: Plan ahead and schedule extra time in your calendar. If you think it's going to take you 10 minutes to get to that meeting across town, plan on 30 minutes. If you're certain you'll be home by 6:00 PM, tell your family you'll be home at 6:30. Trick yourself into being on time until you can accurately assess how long your activities really take. This will help you avoid over-committing your time.

Sign No. 4: Channeling Debbie Downer. If you're a Saturday Night Live fan, you'll recognize this reference. When I'm doing too much, my mood darkens. All of a sudden, the wonderful things I used to appreciate about my life vanish, and I zero in on anything that could become a problem. I worry. Then I complain. A lot.

What to do: If you have an incredible urge to find the worst in every situation, you may be on the verge of burnout. Write down all of your complaints of the day. Go ahead, include that you'll never get that promotion because, clearly, you're too fat. And your best friend must be mad at you because she hasn't called in over three days. Just go for it and really get it out. Then take that list, and force yourself to turn every complaint into something positive. For example, "my job is boring and meaningless" would become "my job gives me the freedom to live in my beautiful home and support my three children, but I'm ready for a change."

Sign No. 5: Becoming a Control Freak. When I'm relaxed in life, I go with the flow. I adapt to different situations. I'm flexible. Even challenges seem like fun little games rather than issues to me. But when I'm doing too much, suddenly it's crucial that I get everything right. There is NO room for error. I become super-serious. I try to plan for every little speed bump that could possibly come up, because God knows if one little thing goes wrong, it'll blow the whole works.

What to do: Don't hold on so tight. Step back and realize that life isn't that serious. It's okay to screw up, or to turn in one project past the deadline, or even tell people "no." When you find yourself trying to micro-manage your life, you're holding on too tight. Stop trying to control everything, and tell yourself that you're only one person, you can only do so much, and life is meant to be enjoyed.

I'm reading a book right now called Slowing Down to the Speed of Life, by Richard Carlson (he also authored Don't Sweat the Small Stuff - and It's All Small Stuff). In his book, Carlson points out that we cannot change our external environment and expect our overall lifestyle to follow suit. External changes are superficial. They may appear to fix all of your problems on the surface, but ultimately you'll just revert back to your old ways in time (prime example: my ability to burnout in the middle of one of the most serene vacation spots on the planet). In order to make lasting changes, we have to change within first, and then watch our external experiences change as a result of that internal shift. It's not easy, but creating peace within ourselves is the only way to truly avoid burnout.

The kidneys regulate the amount of water, salts and other solutes leaving the body. People assumed that if you drink too much your kidneys will get rid of the excess water. This is not true at all. When one drinks too much water in a short period of time, the kidneys is unable to flush it out fast enough, the blood becomes waterlogged. Excess water leaves the blood and ultimately enters the cells. As cells take more extra water and expand, the cell is swelling like balloons to accommodate it and put stress on organs. Most cells have room to stretch because they are embedded in flexible tissues such as fat and muscle, but this is not the case for the brain, which has no room to expand within the skull and can cause a seizure, respiratory arrest, coma or even death.

This condition is called Water intoxification or in Latin word the terms is, translates as "insufficient salt in the blood." This condition affects the never impulses and impairs mental processes. The symptoms of Hyponatremia include headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, disorientation, lethargy, agitation, and frequent urination.

One should balance what he/she is drinking with what he/she's sweating, i.e.: maintaining a proper balance of water and electrolytes such as sodium (salt) intake. However measuring sweat output is not easy. How to determine how much water should be consumed to support your health?

The answer is depending on your diet, exercise habits and environment. If you eat more food rich in water content such as vegetables and fruits, you may not drink too much water. If you sweat regularly due to exercise or warm climate, you might need more water to avoid dehydration. The best indicator would be a thirst barometer, "drink to your thirst".

When we grow up we were taught to drink at least eight glasses a day, but drinking by fixed volume is unreliable because each individual body is unique and the daily fluid turnover is different.

To help maintain the proper fluid and salt level, it would be advisable to weigh yourself before and after heavy exercise. Each 1 kg loss in weight is equal to 1 liter of water. Take it easy and don't be rushed drinking water after exercise, make sure that you don't feel bloated and feeling discomfort. Drink when you feel the need to and DO NOT gulp fluids in large volumes before, during or after a heavy exercise or a race.

It is used to transport nutrients to all of our organs. Water also transports oxygen to your cells, removes waste, and lubricates our joints and organs.

Water is lost through urination, respiration, and by sweating. The more active you are, the more water you lose. If you start to get pains in your joints, headaches, strong smelling yellow urine and constipation, it may be a sign that you are dehydrated, and thus not getting enough water to replace what is lost. Thirst is also a good sign that you need to drink more.

Can we drink too much water, and if so, how much is too much?

Short answer, yes. In fact people are known to have died from drinking too much water. So why is too much dangerous? Well, drinking too much water can couse your brain to swell. Being inside your skull, it when it swells, it doesn't really have anywhere to go. This swelling can interfere with vital functions such as breathing.

So how much is too much?

Ok, so how much is 'ideal'?

-Botox-oral medications-surgery-iontophoresis

The Botox treatment involves injecting Botox into the sweat glands underneath the skin. This procedure works really well, but it's not permanent and can be quite expensive.

There are a few oral medications that can be prescribed for someone who has excessive sweating. One of them is Robinul, which is usually used to treat ulcers but is effective in treating severe sweating too. There are some side effects however, such as headaches, dizziness and nausea.

A surgical procedure, called Thoracis Sympathectomy, involves making small incisions in the chest and cutting the nerve that runs to the sweat glands in the armpits. Frankly, this one sounds dangerous and I would only recommend it in really extreme cases.

Iontophoresis is very promising. The patient puts their hands or feet in a basin of water while a light electrical charge passes through it. This somehow numbs the sweat glands for a time, reducing sweating. Unfortunately my sweating problem was confined to my underarms, so this treatment wasn't an option.

I wasn't really interested in Botox or surgery, so I tried the medication for a while. It worked ok, but the side effects made me quit the meds after about 2 weeks.

That's when I learned about natural at home remedies for stopping armpit sweating. The most effective remedies I read about were:

-Aluminum based antiperspirants-baking soda-changing diet-wearing cotton clothes

Some antiperspirants work better than others. Aluminum based antiperspirants seem to work the best at eliminating major underarm sweating.

Baking soda is another easy trick that you might want to try out. Baking soda is great at absorbing moisture and odors. Just take about a teaspoon of baking soda and rub it on your pits!

A good diet is important for good health and I had some success simply eating better. I also avoided spicy foods, which can trick the brain into thinking the body is hotter than it really is. There is some evidence that iodine rich foods like fish and eggs can cause excessive sweating, but I didn't notice any difference avoiding these foods. Wearing cotton clothes can help keep you cool and dry by keeping air flow at a maximum.
