Natural Cures for Your Illness that Available in Your Kitchen Cabinets - Health - Wellness

No aisle is more popular at the grocery store than the pharmacy aisle because that is where you head first when you get sick. For most of us, heading to the pharmacy for an over the counter antihistamine or decongestant when we feel sick is a habit. What if you did not have to do this?

What if you had the remedies you needed to feel better right in your kitchen cabinets? Why do you need to go outside at all when you are sick? There are lots of natural cures for your illness.

Water is the best. Water can do more than simply keep you hydrated and keep your thirst quenched. When you have a headache, try drinking some water instead of heading for the aspirin or Advil bottle. Many headache sufferers do not know that they are dehydrated. Drinking a glass of water can help that headache start to wane in a matter of minutes. In addition to keeping you hydrated you can use water for other things. Hot baths, for example, are great for helping people break fevers (just remember to keep a cold compress on your head so you don't get dangerously overheated). The heat will relax your muscles and help you to start sweating. You want to sweat when you have a fever because it is how your fever will be brought down by your body.

There are lots of ways that you can increase your vitamin C intake! Vitamin C is found in leafy greens as well! If you feel yourself starting to get sick, aim for the green and leafy as well as the orange and round. Oranges are not the only citrus fruit that contains vitamin C!

Adding bell peppers to your foods is a great idea because bell peppers are another good source of vitamin C! Not only is the addition of vitamin C infused ingredients to your food great for your taste buds, your immune system will enjoy the added boost to its strength as well.

Echinacea is another very popular natural health remedy. The trick to making sure that Echinacea does its job is to keep some on hand and take it as soon as you start to feel a cold set in. If you take Echinacea as soon as you feel symptomatic you could keep the cold from taking hold at all. If you've already had the flu set in, Echinacea can speed up the healing process and lessen the effects of your symptoms. If you're sick you should take around 1200mgs per day to get well. By taking 400 mgs thrice daily you'll get the recommended dosage but don't take all 1200 mgs at once or you could make yourself worse.

Strengthening your immune system through natural health practices is one of the best ways to keep from getting sick at all. More importantly, knowing how to correctly treat the symptoms you do have can go a long way to helping you combat illness and to keep yourself from accidentally making yourself sicker. Your body will thank you for using natural methods to treat illness instead of simply throwing chemicals at whatever ailment comes your way.
